The Conde Municipal Building
In my mind the building of this civic center was probably the single biggest thing that Conde ever did to set it apart from other small communities. It was a very modern structure for it’s time and most of Conde’s social activities were held there. It’s theater sat 300 people and the visibility and acoustics were great. When I was young it ran the same movie on Saturday and Sunday nights. Price of admission was 35 cents for grownups and 10 cents for kids. When I was a teenager they ran different shows on the week ends. Later they ran three shows a week and all of the movies were different. Many traveling variety shows were held on it’s large stage. All the school plays were held in this building as were all the Memorial Day programs. The basement enclosed the only dance floor in town. It housed the city offices and was Conde's Fire Hall.
